Pendulum

Pendulum twists the spiritual retreat trope into a psychological labyrinth exploring cult dynamics and trust.

• Why it matters: Mark Heyman, known for sharp narratives in films like 'Mother!' (co-writer), steps behind the camera, promising a cerebral horror that probes modern wellness culture's dark underbelly.
• What we know: Set in New Mexico, the film centers on a couple's fracturing faith in a retreat's enigmatic leader, blurring lines between healing and manipulation.
• Who's involved: Joseph Gordon-Levitt and Jena Malone anchor the cast, supported by Norman Reedus and Phoebe Dynevor, with Jacki Weaver adding gravitas—an ensemble blending indie credibility and genre chops.
• The buzz: Early whispers highlight Heyman's direction as a methodical slow burn, evoking 'The Invitation' and 'Midsommar' vibes, poised to resonate with fans of psychological and folk-tinged horror.
