Backwoods
Karen and Jamie bike out to a remote wooded area for camping. Jamie saves a young girl’s life with an emergency tracheotomy and her grateful father, Eben, invites the campers to his place for some dinner...where they also meet William, Eben’s beastly geek son.
Why it matters
A grimy, late-80s backwoods nightmare that mines rural isolation for tense, unsettling dread and some gloriously off-kilter family dynamics.
- Practical effects-driven gore and creature design that lean into the era’s grungy, tactile aesthetic.
- A slow-burn slice of cabin fever horror that’s more mood and menace than nonstop action.
- Eben and William’s twisted father-son relationship anchors the film’s disturbing atmosphere with unsettling charisma.
- Perfect for fans of regional horror and ’80s indie slashers who crave character-driven terror over jump-scare fatigue.
