Gyo: Tokyo Fish Attack
ギョ
Kaori, Erika and Aki are celebrating their graduation when an infestation of walking fish forces them to re-evaluate their circumstances.
Why it matters
Mutant fish on mechanized legs turn seaside vacation into a bio-horror nightmare that’s part Lovecraft, part ’80s creature feature.
- Practical and CG effects clash in gloriously grotesque ways, delivering a uniquely unsettling aquatic menace.
- An off-kilter blend of body horror and eco-apocalypse that taps into fears of nature’s revenge gone sci-fi.
- For fans of Junji Ito’s twisted visions and the surreal dread of “The Thing” meets “Tetsuo.”
- Uneven pacing and campy dialogue won’t be for everyone, but the sheer audacity of fish-walking terror is worth the ride.
