Focus Features Launches Oscar Campaign for 'Obsession' Star Inde Navarrette

Focus Features has officially announced a robust Oscar campaign for 'Obsession' star Inde Navarrette, aiming to secure a Best Actress nomination at the next Academy Awards, according to Bloody Disgusting. The studio's decision to back Navarrette with a significant awards push reflects the rising visibility of horror films in prestigious circles, a trend that's been gaining momentum since 'Get Out' and 'The Shape of Water' opened doors for genre fare.

Variety first reported on the campaign, highlighting that Focus Features intends to present 'Obsession' in hopes of garnering a total of 15 Oscar nominations. This ambitious campaign strategy underscores the confidence in Navarrette's performance, as well as the studio's belief in the film's overall merit. With the horror genre often sidelined during awards season, this move indicates a shift in perception, where horror is increasingly seen as a viable contender.

Navarrette's performance in 'Obsession' has been lauded by critics, cementing her status as a breakout star. The film, which blends psychological horror elements with complex character dynamics, aligns with the evolving landscape of horror that's both entertainment and high art.

Whether 'Obsession' will enjoy the same success as other recent horror entries in awards season remains to be seen, but it certainly marks an exciting chapter in the genre's ongoing narrative. Horror fans and industry insiders alike will be watching closely to see if Navarrette can break into the tightly-held Best Actress category.
