Joshua Giuliano to Direct New Horror Film 'Occupant' under Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Focus Features

Joshua Giuliano, a promising new voice in horror cinema, is set to direct 'Occupant' in collaboration with Blumhouse, Atomic Monster, and Focus Features. This move comes hot on the heels of his feature debut 'River,' which premiered at Toronto International Film Festival’s (TIFF) Midnight Madness, garnering significant attention with its gritty slasher style. According to Bloody Disgusting, Giuliano's debut spotlighted actress Jane Levy in a fierce return to horror, marking the film as an homage to classic slashers, a subgenre well-beloved by genre enthusiasts.

Blumhouse and Atomic Monster’s decision to back Giuliano's new project speaks volumes about their belief in his potential to craft compelling horror narratives. The industry buzz suggests Giuliano might join a new wave of young filmmakers, akin to Curry Barker and Kane Parsons, who have transitioned smoothly from indie circuits to mainstream genre cinema. As reported by IndieWire, Blumhouse and other production heavyweights are betting on Giuliano to bring fresh, cultural insights into horror’s psychological terrain.

With Focus Features securing worldwide rights and Universal Pictures International managing international distribution, 'Occupant' is poised to reach global audiences, indicating a significant investment in the film’s success. This collaboration illustrates a commitment to diversifying modern horror storytelling by exploring new, and perhaps more personal, avenues of fear. The anticipated release could mark a pivotal moment in Giuliano’s career and further enrich Blumhouse's already robust lineup of innovative horror content.
