LevelK Joins Norwegian Psycho-Thriller 'Anathema' by Promising Directors

LevelK, a prominent sales and aggregation company based in Copenhagen, has recently boarded 'Anathema,' a psycho-thriller by the talented Norwegian directing duo Ea Johanne Sandberg and Alpha Nord, according to Variety. This intriguing project will be among the 21 others pitched at the Nordic Co-Production Market in Haugesund. Sandberg and Nord's vision, shepherded alongside experienced producer Janne Hjeltnes of 'Royalteen' and 'Midsummer Night' fame, promises a narrative rich in themes of repression, denial, and collective madness.

Drawing narrative parallels to the folk horror staples of 'The Wicker Man' and 'Midsommar,' 'Anathema' seems poised to tap into that unsettling space where cultural anxiety and societal norms collide, as mentioned by Dread Central. This comes as no surprise, given the recent resurgence of interest in folk horror, which probes the dark underbelly of communal life and the hidden fears lurking within established traditions. With the promise of resonant themes and captivating storytelling, Sandberg and Nord's film looks to make a significant impact as it hits the international stage.

Anticipation for 'Anathema' is likely to grow as it gains traction at the Haugesund market, potentially positioning Norway as a fresh voice in the psycho-thriller genre. We should keep an eye on this one, as it might herald a new wave of Nordic chillers reaching broader audiences and further cementing their place in the global horror landscape.
