Mike Flanagan Expresses Interest in Directing a 'JAWS' Movie

Mike Flanagan, renowned for his adaptations of works by horror luminaries such as Stephen King and Shirley Jackson, has expressed a desire to direct a film in the 'JAWS' franchise. Bloody Disgusting reported that during a Reddit Ask Me Anything session, Flanagan disclosed his interest while promoting his latest project, a 'Carrie' series adaptation. Flanagan, known for infusing psychological depth into his projects like 'The Haunting of Hill House' and 'Midnight Mass,' appears keen to tackle the aquatic terror made iconic by Spielberg's 1975 masterpiece.

Flanagan's fascination with 'JAWS' aligns with his track record of revamping established horror narratives, as he has demonstrated with his acclaimed reimaginings of 'The Haunting of Bly Manor' and 'Doctor Sleep.' Reimagining a classic like 'JAWS' comes with high stakes—Spielberg's film set the standard for summer blockbusters and still casts a long shadow over creature features today. However, given Flanagan's success in breathing fresh life into storied horror tropes, his involvement could herald a new chapter for this legendary franchise.

This declaration not only underscores Flanagan's ambition but also signals a potential resurgence of major franchise reboots, as studios search for trusted directors to helm high-profile properties. Mixing his penchant for atmospheric dread with the primal fear of the deep, Flanagan could offer a unique take on the ancient battle of man versus nature. If realized, this project might invigorate both Mike Flanagan's illustrious career and the 'JAWS' legacy itself.
