Hold Your Breath

2012 ·1h 27m · ★ 4.3 (86)

There is an old wives tale that you should hold your breath when passing by a cemetery because an evil spirit rejected by both heaven and hell can get inside of you when you inhale. Somewhere in a carload of college kids on holiday doesn't follow the rules when driving by a graveyard, allowing a spirit of a recently executed serial killer to get inside him/her to begin a killing spree of body-jumping carnage.

Why it matters

A low-budget body-jumping ghost story that leans hard into campy charm and so-so CG effects, carving out a niche for fans of schlocky supernatural horror.

  • Katrina Bowden (“Tucker and Dale vs Evil”) anchors the cast with surprisingly solid work amid the chaos.
  • Practical effects take a backseat to over-the-top digital gore, making it a guilty pleasure for fans of “so-bad-it’s-good” horror.
  • Plays like a Southern California cabin-in-the-woods flick with a spectral twist—perfect for viewers who dig B-movie backwoods brutality.
  • Falls short of classics like “Fallen,” but its earnest attempts and goofy spirit possession premise offer enough to keep genre junkies entertained on a bad movie night.
