Sundown: The Vampire in Retreat
Reclusive vampires lounge in a lonely American town. They wear sunscreen to protect themselves. A descendant of Van Helsing arrives with hilarious consequences.
Why it matters
A slyly subversive vampire comedy that blends gothic tradition with small-town Americana, flipping undead tropes on their sun-drenched heads.
- Pre-digital charm with practical effects that lean into camp without losing bite.
- A rare take on vampire lore that mines humor from the mundane—sunscreen as vampire armor is pure offbeat genius.
- For fans of genre mashups that riff on Van Helsing mythos without taking themselves too seriously.
- Cult status partly for its deadpan performances and off-kilter atmosphere—like if Twilight Zone met a desert dive bar.
