2013 ·1h 28m · ★ 3.4 (48)

Lisa Templeton begins a new job as a cleaner at High Hopes Hospital, a mental institution in Amityville, Long Island. Initially delighted to get the job, Lisa soon realises that all is not as it seems. Intimidated by staff and the psychotic ramblings of the patients, she is further unnerved by apparent supernatural occurrences on the night shift. To preserve her sanity Lisa must uncover the mysterious history of the institution and it's inmates. But the truth is far more terrifying than she could ever imagine.

Why it matters

A grimy blend of asylum dread and haunted house chills that taps into the Amityville mythos with a low-budget grindhouse edge.

  • Practical effects and grimy set design lean into the claustrophobic madness of institutional horror, recalling ’80s psych ward flicks.
  • Delivers a slow-burn atmosphere that fans of haunted asylum stories will appreciate despite uneven pacing.
  • Lisa’s descent into paranoia channels classic tropes but earns points for earnestness over cheap jump scares.
  • Best for viewers who savor regional indie horror and the lore of cursed locations rather than polished scares.
