Within the Woods
While spending a weekend at a remote cabin, Bruce desecrates an Indian burial ground and becomes re-animated, making way to kill his friends.
Why it matters
A raw, embryonic slice of supernatural terror that laid the groundwork for one of horror’s most iconic franchises.
- Early Bruce Campbell charm and Ellen Sandweiss’s scream queen debut hint at the star power to come.
- Micro-budget ingenuity with practical effects that showcase Sam Raimi’s resourcefulness before "The Evil Dead" blew up.
- A proto-slasher/found-footage hybrid steeped in folk horror tropes — cabin isolation, vengeful spirits, and cursed ground.
- Essential viewing for fans tracing the evolution of ’80s horror and the birth of Raimi’s kinetic, visceral style.
