A Beginner's Guide to Snuff
Two brothers, desperate to break into the world of television and film, decide to enter a horror movie contest. And what could be more horrifying than the elusive snuff film?
Why it matters
A Beginner’s Guide to Snuff twists the found-footage format into a meta-horror satire that exposes the desperation and delusion behind indie filmmaking obsessions.
- Sharp commentary on horror fandom and the obsession with authenticity in the digital age.
- Blurs lines between documentary, mockumentary, and horror — a self-aware riff on the snuff film urban legend.
- Low-fi aesthetic leans into practical effects and raw performances, capturing the scrappy spirit of DIY horror.
- Ideal for fans of meta horror like Behind the Mask and The Poughkeepsie Tapes who appreciate genre-savvy storytelling with a darkly comic edge.
