Why it matters
A tense blend of family drama and survival horror set on a rat-infested train that channels classic contagion dread through a distinctly Chinese lens.
- Practical effects and rat menace deliver tangible, gnawing terror reminiscent of 80s creature features.
- Roots in folk horror and urban decay amplify the claustrophobic atmosphere and cultural anxieties about disease and trust.
- Strong performances anchor the escalating panic, with family bonds adding emotional weight beyond the gnarly vermin.
- For fans of survival horror and contagion thrillers seeking a fresh regional perspective outside the usual Western settings.
