Los Angeles private eye Jack Chandler is hired by a worried mother to find her missing runaway daughter, Samantha. As Chandler searches for her whereabouts, he uncovers an evil cult that worships an Egyptian god, whose followers commit human sacrifices with chainsaws to appease their deity. He soon learns that Samantha has revenge in store for the cult leader and his bevy of blood-thirsty, chainsaw-wielding hookers.

Why it matters

A gleefully grotesque blend of exploitation, camp, and gory absurdity that captures late-80s grindhouse spirit with a chainsaw-wielding twist.

  • Iconic for its over-the-top practical effects and gleefully trashy aesthetic, a true cult artifact from director Fred Olen Ray.
  • Balances pulpy detective noir with horror-comedy, skewering exploitation tropes while delivering unrepentant splatter.
  • Perfect for fans of low-budget schlock who appreciate practical gore and cheeky genre mashups.
  • Not a subtle film—lean into the camp and enjoy its unapologetic embrace of B-movie excess and absurdity.
